The ambassador’s office should be a place where at least both cultures are reflected. To ensure this, interior aesthetics and furniture common to Mid-Century Philippine Modern are incorporated with the colour palette of the Japandi styled office workspaces of the embassy.
Richer colours commonly seen in Philippine ancestral homes, like ebony and mahogany, are used heavier and incorporated with common Japandi elements like rattan or wicker. A lot more liberty and vibrancy in colour and material choice is taken with the furniture used for the ambassador’s office.
The goal of using this style in this context is to show the ideals and essence of modern Philippine design to the guests of the ambassador to their office. Symbolism is also incorporated in the furniture choices namely the carpet resembling lava, the drawers made out of stained mango wood, the national fruit of the Philippines, and rattan, figurines like a sun, a leaf, and a pineapple, and plants like orchids.
Since the ambassador’s office is a simple rectangular interior space that connects to the surrounding landscape, an intimate area is established at the centre of the room with a vibrantly coloured carpet.
At one end of the carpet is the desk space establishing it as the command position. All other furniture, including the guest area, are located outside the carpeted area on the wooden floor.
The desk space is located in the carpeted area at the border so that the windows behind the desk space would frame it. This improves the feature of the desk space as a command position.
